
My journey in education began with a challenge. In my first year of teaching, I was hired to teach Theory of Knowledge in the school’s IB Diploma Programme—something I had never even heard of. Alongside that, I was assigned AP U.S. History and honors World History. Just two weeks before the school year began, the school reached out again—this time asking if I would take over AP and IB Economics after their teacher transitioned to district administration. My response was honest: “I’ll do whatever you need me to do, but you should check my transcripts. I have not studied economics and I’m sure you’ll find someone more qualified.”

Ten years later, I had tripled the size of the AP/IB Economics course, became an
IB Economics examiner, and was training other IB Economics teachers through the IB Educator Network. I also expanded that work to include Theory of Knowledge,
the Extended Essay, and more.​
Building on that experience, I led the development of a new IB Diploma Programme and laid the foundation for a whole-school Middle Years Programme. Over the next 15 years, we built a Diploma Programme grounded in academic excellence for all—serving the most highly prepared students as well as those who struggled. We fostered a strong community of students and educators, leveraging that support system to ensure every student had the opportunity to succeed. Equity and inclusion were at the heart of our work, and our commitment to diversity strengthened our program. Our efforts were recognized by the International Baccalaureate, which highlighted our Equity and Access Committee (EAC) for its role in expanding opportunities for historically underserved communities.
Now, I have built Student Centered Solutions to share my expertise in program development, teacher training, and problem-solving. As a former president of IB Schools of North Carolina, I also collaborate with a highly skilled network of IB coordinators and IB Educator Network members to ensure I can meet the diverse needs of magnet and IB schools across all contexts.
